The type of economy in Puerto Rico is classified as a high income economy by the World Bank and as the most competitive economy in Latino America.
Major parts of the economy
Puerto Rico's economy has not always been stable. Before the 1940's, Puerto Rico mainly depended on their agriculture to keep them stable but that didn't last long. Once they discovered manufacturing in the early 1940's, their economy took flight. The country is now high-income country through the World Bank. Now, in the 20th century, Puerto Rico's economy thrives from tourism, technology, manufacturing, textiles, petrochemicals, processed foods and clothing.
